Travel Journal #2 : Istanbul Day 2

P1100434

On the second day, we decided to take it easy and go to the hip Nisantasi area, where you can find all the high fashion names. Amongst the usual brands, we found a few interesting local shops such as the very popular Vakko

As we walked back to Taksim square we also passed by some shops that were more laid back. We stepped into Guven, where we found a large selection of all sorts of dried fruit and turkish delights, and took a look inside one of the many of custom perfume shops of Istanbul.

In the afternoon, we went to the Grand Bazaar, and got to bargaining. I bought a narguile, and a few bracelets. We found it was not so hard, as long as you appeared confident and knew what you wanted. It was actually kind of fun and the people were nice, but we soon realized we would need to come back another day to get the rest of the shopping done since the Grand Bazaar is so BIG, and bargaining takes time.

To finish off the day, we had dinner with some turkish friends at a rooftop restaurant with an incredible view, the Hamdi Restaurant in Eminönü. The food was simply amazing. Lots of little entrées, a delicious kebab plate and a piece of their renowned baklava (which i still dream about) for desert.

A comida estava excelente.
